Fayetteville, Arkansas — It’s becoming clear how much everyone is disregarding Arkansas’ game against Texas. Granted, the Longhorns recently advanced to the college football playoffs, whereas the Razorbacks struggled throughout the season. Regardless of the records, this is the one game that even casual Hogs fans will make an effort to attend. The tailgating will be huge. Many Arkansas fans can simply bring their supplies from the deer camp, as the state’s most popular sport begins around a week before the game.

It could be a ray of light for Sam Pittman’s team that has a ton of issues with no answers coming until at least mid-September. Unless they fully live in a bubble these days, they will at least have a game on the schedule that they will be aware of as being significant.

Texas probably already has it in the “win” column. A piece on LonghornsCountry.com pointed out the obvious, with an early away game at Michigan and the mid-season yearly battle with Oklahoma in Dallas as the highlights of their calendar. They simply see the Hogs right now as an opportunity to get players healthy for the postseason.

Nobody knows what their records will be or who will be playing when these teams face off on November 16. That aligns with the statistical likelihood of harm sometime along the process. These days, there’s no certainty of who the coach will be by then. Obviously, there is always a danger. former athletic director John Barnhill’s warning to Frank Broyles when he relocated the Texas game from October to Dec. 6 in 1969, “be careful, you could wind up playing for the championship of Washington and Travis counties.”

That may be the case again. Longhorns supporters, who are among the cockiest in the country (which I kind of like), have already scored a “win” by putting on these absurd projects for a season. After all, we still have a transfer portal coming up, so there will be some coming and going. This is the world we live in today.

At the very least, Razorback fans will have constant access to the Longhorns’ football schedule. That will keep them interested for at least one week per year. It is unclear how Pittman will develop this team and whether they will play for anything.
