Kansas City Chiefs fans react to the new Travis Kelce retirement announcement.
Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs’ top tight end, has been linked to many reports concerning his likely retirement after this season. The tight end is in his tenth season in the NFL and has made numerous headlines in 2023 since it was discovered that he was dating music sensation Taylor Swift. Many fans and commentators have believed that Kelce may retire after this season, as he is rapidly approaching the conclusion of his career, and the great tight end has issued a statement on when he will call it quits.
Travis Kelce responds to retirement rumors.
The Chiefs tight end addressed the allegations on his podcast “New Heights” alongside his brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, saying he would play “until the wheels fall off.”
I haven’t discovered anything outside of football that will push me in the same way that playoff football does, and I doubt I will ever find it. And that’s one of the things that will keep me playing this game till the wheels come off. I know I get to accept these challenges, these difficult games, these difficult matchups, the question of whether or not we’ll win–and come through big for the guys next to me.
It’s an energy and enthusiasm that I’ve never felt anyplace else in the world, and it’s something I’ll always love.
How the rumor began
While Kelce was not expressly asked about his impending retirement, Sunday Night Football sideline reporter Michelle Tafoya hinted that the star tight end would retire after this season, joining his brother Jason. Kelce has been Kansas City’s greatest player throughout his career, aside from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, thus his retirement would be a major loss for the team.
