Atlanta Falcons hire Raheem Morris as head coach.

After a lengthy search that featured more than a dozen candidates, the Atlanta Falcons have apparently identified their new head coach.

The Falcons will allegedly hire Raheem Morris, the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, to replace Arthur Smith, who was sacked.

The NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero broke the story first on Thursday.

Morris has previously worked as a head coach on two occasions. From 2009 to 2011, he was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, going 17-31 before being fired in favor of Lovie Smith.

In 2020, Morris was once again appointed as head coach. The Falcons dismissed Dan Quinn following a 0-5 start to the season, and Morris took over for the final 11 games, going 4-7. Instead of advancing Morris to head coach, the Falcons let him leave to the Rams and hired Arthur Smith, who was 7-10 in his three seasons with the team.

Morris had previously held several jobs in the organization, including defensive backs coach. He worked for the Washington Commanders from 2012 to 2014 before becoming Atlanta’s associate head coach and passing game coordinator.

Morris now joins a Falcons squad that is loaded with talent on both sides of the field but lacks a quarterback. Finding one is likely to make or destroy Morris’ second stay with Atlanta.
