Cowboys May Lose Top Coach Aden Durde; British Native in Demand: NFL Tracker
Dallas Cowboys May Lose Top Coach Aden Durde; British Native in Demand: NFL Tracker

JAN 25 DURDE IN DEMAND. Aden Durde, a British-born Dallas Cowboys assistant, is suddenly in demand.

ESPN reports that Green Bay, the Rams, and Atlanta are requesting permission to speak with the Cowboys defensive line coach.

Durde is 44. He has been with Dallas since 2021 and serves as Dan Quinn’s trusted lieutenant. There is speculation that if Quinn is hired as head coach in either Seattle or Washington, Durde could be his choice for defensive coordinator. The Cowboys undoubtedly value Durde in the same way.

JAN 23: ALARCON TO SF The San Francisco 49ers have signed Isaac Alarcón, a Mexico native, to a reserve/future contract, bringing an end to the Dallas Cowboys’ experiment with the former NFL International Player Pathway Program hopeful.

The Cowboys waived Alarcón as part of the 53-man roster cut for this season, but the NFL permitted him to remain on the practice squad, where he has spent his entire career. The 25-year-old has yet to appear in an NFL game, but this season he shifted from offensive line to defensive line.

JAN 17: TWO RBS SIGNED. As CowboysSI.com reported last week, WR Martavis Bryant is returning to the Cowboys on a futures contract.

With Tony Pollard about to become a free agent, Dallas has signed running backs Malik Davis and Snoop Conner to future contracts.

Conner spent 2023 on the Jaguars’ practice squad after being drafted in the fifth round out of Ole Miss. Davis has been in Dallas for a few years and is regarded a potential backfield contributor.

JAN 14: BLACK AND WHITE The Cowboys are due to play the Packers in the NFC Wild Card game on Sunday afternoon here at AT&T Stadium, and while QB Dak Prescott wore entirely in black (“Here We Gooo!”) for his arrival, pregnant girlfriend Sarah Jane Ramos heeded the team’s request to “White Out” the area…

And thus she is dressed entirely in white.

Dallas, the NFC’s No. 2 seed, wants its fans to rock the building in unison… and Ms. Ramos is on board!

The Cowboys and Packers will begin off at 3:30 p.m. CT on Sunday. The NFC Wild Card Game will telecast on FOX.

JAN 13: BROWNOUT The Cowboys are healthy for the NFL playoffs. Who are their archrivals in Philadelphia? Not very much.

A.J. Brown, the Eagles’ star receiver, has been ruled out for Monday night’s playoff game against the Bucs due to an injury. Combine that with QB Jalen Hurts barely throwing in practice this week due to a mangled finger, and Philly appears to be fighting an uphill struggle.

Meanwhile, Dallas is fully prepared for their Sunday home game against visiting Green Bay, with just backup quarterback Cooper Rush’s illness a concern.

Depending on how the playoffs go, Dallas may host the winner of the Eagles-Bucs game next week.

January 11 Packers CB Injured in Practice Jaire Alexander, Green Bay’s standout cornerback, was allegedly injured in practice on Wednesday ahead of his team’s Sunday Wild Card game against the Cowboys.

According to Packers coach Matt LaFleur, Alexander had a “kind of freak deal” yesterday. “Stepped on someone’s foot and rolled an ankle,” according to Rob Demovsky.

LaFleur said Alexander’s status is day-to-day after sitting out practice on Thursday.

JAN 10 PLAYOFF INJURY UPDATE Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy announced Wednesday inside The Star that Tyler Smith (foot) and Stephon Gilmore (shoulder) will be limited in practice today.

Gilmore is “making really good progress,” according to the coach, implying that the veteran cornerback, who will be in the rehab group today, may carry a light load this week before Dallas “cuts him loose” in the playoff game against the Packers on Sunday.

Smith will similarly proceed slowly with his return to the field. Also on the offensive line, Zack Martin, who missed the Washington win due to sickness, is healthy and ready to go.

JAN 10: CLEMENT FREE Former Cowboys running back Corey Clement was released from the Arizona Cardinals roster, allowing him to add depth to a playoff team this season.

Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported the move.

“The Cardinals are releasing veteran RB Corey Clement from the practice squad today, per source, giving him a chance to join a playoff team that needs depth,” Pelissero said in an X.com article.

Clement played in only three games for the Cardinals this season and is most known for his time in Philadelphia.

In 2021, Clement appeared in all 17 Cowboys games, mostly on special teams, but he had 33 carries for 140 yards and six catches for 29 yards and one score.
