Details of Vic Fangio’s Dolphins Exit Emerge.
A day after Vic Fangio was named as the Philadelphia Eagles’ new defensive coordinator, word of his departure from the Miami Dolphins organization surfaced.

It appears that the Philadelphia Eagles have chosen their defensive coordinator. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Thursday morning that the Eagles are set to hire the 65-year-old, who parted ways with the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday.

The Eagles’ defense collapsed down the stretch, so fans are understandably excited to see if Fangio can turn things around. Unfortunately, the most recent reports about the team’s newest higher may damper some of that joy.

Eagles Rumors: Rift Between Fangio and Dolphins Players

In an interview with media personality Josh Moser, sports agent Drew Rosenhaus discussed how certain Dolphins players “didn’t necessarily get along with Fangio.” Rosenhaus represents numerous Miami players, including Tyreek Hill, Jeff Wilson Jr., and Emmanuel Ogbah.

Rosenhaus also stated that while some players got along with Fangio, “it definitely wasn’t a unanimously positive relationship.”

Concerning Details of Vic Fangio's Dolphins Exit Emerge

While most people will take Rosenhaus’ statements with a grain of salt, it’s worth noting that Hill did cite the above interview on X (previously Twitter), title it “Drew the feds,” implying that the 57-year-old was revealing some truth.

Maybe there was a schism between Dolphins players and the Eagles’ new coach, but it doesn’t mean it was all Fangio’s fault. Not every player and coach will get along, and this can be due to a bad organizational fit. It’s certainly likely that Philadelphia’s players will have no problems with the former 2018 NFL Assistant Coach of the Year.

Fangio has a long history with Philadelphia and the surrounding area. He was born and raised in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, and attended East Stroudsburg University. He went on to work as a defensive coach for the Philadelphia Stars of the United States Football League in 1984, and he even acted as a consultant for the Eagles during their 2022 Super Bowl run.

Given that Fangio’s mother and children still live in the area, returning to Philadelphia may bring out the best in his coaching abilities both on and off the field.

The Eagles concluded the 2023 regular season with the third-worst scoring defense, the third-worst red-zone defense, and the seventh-worst total yards allowed. Philadelphia ranked eighth, eleventh, and second in those categories with Fangio as a consultant in 2022.

Time will tell whether Fangio can have the same impact on the Eagles’ defense in 2024, regardless of how much the players like him or not.
