New York acquired one of baseball’s top players in a blockbuster trade with the San Diego Padres for superstar slugger Juan Soto. The Yankees have also been working to improve other aspects of the organization.

The Yankees already appear very different than they did at the close of the 2023 season. New York should already be regarded one of the greatest teams in the American League, but adding another starting pitcher would be a significant boost.

New York may use at least one more starter to improve its depth and alternatives. If the Yankees could sign another star instead of a mid-tier player, the club would benefit even more.

The Yankees have been linked several times to 2023 National League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, who is still available in free agency.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Yankees are the only team that has formally offered him a contract, despite the fact that no deal has been reached.

“The Yankees reportedly offered Snell a six-year, $150 million contract, but the reigning NL Cy Young winner turned it down, wanting either a higher average annual value – a deal worth at least $30 million per year – or a longer contract,” Feinsand said in a statement. According to a source, New York’s offer is the only one made to Snell, despite the fact that a number of teams have indicated interest in the left-handed pitcher.
