Latest Update: Man United agreed to sign Erling Haaland but missed the deadline by one hour, according to a top scout.

Man United had an agreement to sign Erling Haaland on the table before he moved to RB Salzburg, according to a well-connected recruitment expert.

Bryan King, the longstanding Scandanavian senior scout of Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Everton, revealed on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that the Premier League giants had a full agreement in place for the Norwegian but missed the deadline to call his then-club Molde by one hour.

Before his move to Manchester United fell through, King said that he organized two tryouts for Haaland at Everton, where he was working as a scout.

Everton executives were skeptical that Haaland would continue to thrive after other players caught up with him physically.

Before joining Borussia Dortmund in December 2019, the gigantic striker prospered at Salzburg and made a significant effect for the Austrian club both domestically and in the Champions League.

King, who is extremely well connected in Scandinavian football and knows the Haaland family well, believes Man United is solely to blame for missing out on the superstar.

“I said to Haaland’s dad that I’d love him to go over to Everton so we could have a look at him, and sure enough we managed to work it,” King told the newspaper.

“He came over for three or four days and did okay, but the general consensus was that he wouldn’t be as effective because of his size?”

“However, Manchester United should have signed Haaland.”

“I know United’s chief Scandavavian scout, and he worked very hard to get him over there.”

“There was a mix-up at the end of the season, and a lot of people at United were on vacation.”

“They were instructed to call Molde at a specific time in the morning.”

“He’s the one.”

“That caused the deal not to go through!”

Since United passed up the opportunity to sign him, Haaland has scored 186 goals and given 44 assists in 191 matches for Salzburg, Dortmund, and Manchester City.

In other news, Manchester United could hijack a £15 million West Ham deal, according to sources.
