Latest News: Newcastle is now aiming to move the ‘inconsistent’ 28-year-old player permanently this summer.
Newcastle United require a new midfielder right now, but Isaac Hayden will not be given another chance.
Eddie Howe’s choices in the middle of the park are now severely restricted, and there is little indication that they will improve anytime soon.
The revelation that the Magpies had cooled their interest in signing Kalvin Phillips made Monday a dismal day in that department. This was followed by reports that Joelinton’s season may be ended due to injury.
That leaves Newcastle with only three fit central midfielders, one of whom is one booking away from a two-game suspension. That is Bruno Guimaraes, our most important player.
Howe clearly needs another midfield option right now, which coincides with Isaac Hayden’s loan spell at Standard Liege being ended.
However, the 28-year-old’s chances of wearing the famed black and white stripes again are unlikely. Instead, he’s talking about leaving St James’ Park.
Newcastle is looking to move. Isaac Hayden continues despite midfield problems.
According to the Telegraph, Hayden is in talks with Preston North End regarding a January transfer to Deepdale.
Preston were linked with a bid for the midfielder lately, and it now appears that Ryan Lowe’s side are ratcheting up their interest. A move to the Lilywhites would reunite Hayden with Freddie Woodman, who departed Newcastle in 2022.
Hayden appears to be on his way to the Championship, with Birmingham City also interested, according to the Northern Echo. They further state that the club is pushing for any loan exit to include a commitment to sign him permanently in the summer.
He has plenty of suitors, but a return to Newcastle seems unlikely. While he plays in a position where we urgently need players, his Toon career is done.
Hayden won’t get another shot at Newcastle.
Suggestions that he could come in and do a job are absurd, given how his career has progressed since Howe arrived at St James’ Park.
He has struggled with injuries and failed to impress during a loan spell at Norwich City.
Hayden was most recently in Belgium, where his performances for Standard Liege were characterized as ‘inconsistent’ by the club’s CEO.
Hayden was immensely popular at Newcastle United, so maybe he can find stability at his next team. But, despite his popularity, he is not what we require right now.
