Latest News: Newcastle United may have identified a midfield’signing,’ with the player expected at the training complex for negotiations.

Newcastle United will keep an eye on Joe White this week after he impressed during his half-season loan at Crewe Alexandra.

The 21-year-old made 25 appearances for The Railwaymen, the last of which was Saturday’s 2-1 triumph over Swindon Town, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

United are now without Joelinton, Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson, and Sandro Tonali, while Bruno Guimaraes is one booking away from a two-match ban.

Eddie Howe admitted that White, who has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Magpies, has a window of opportunity.

“We’ve decided to bring Joe back and we’ll see where he’s at in terms of his development,” Howe said. “He’s done very well in his loan recently.”

“I’m very happy with Joe because he’s a very talented player.” In his game, he’s got some things to improve on. He went out on loan, played consistently, and began to add goals and assists.

“We’ll bring him back and see where his game is at and then make a decision based on that.”

Crewe are interested in signing White for the rest of the season, as are several other clubs, including League Two leaders Stockport County, if United are willing to loan him back out.

“Joe’s been excellent, a real positive for us this season,” Crewe manager Lee Bell said. “He’s a really good honest lad who wants to do well.”

“He’ll return to Newcastle now, and hopefully we’ll hear something in a couple of days.” When he arrives, he might strike up a chat with Eddie Howe. Unfortunately, they’ve had another injury in that area, so we’re crossing our fingers.

“Joe wants to be here, and we want him to be here.” Newcastle must undoubtedly do what is necessary, but we will discuss it over the coming week.”

In 2016, White transferred from Carlisle United’s academy to Newcastle’s. Before signing a new three-year contract in March 2022, he was on the radar of Celtic, Rangers, Chelsea, and Leeds United.

The former Hartlepool United and Exeter City loanee is yet to make his professional first-team debut for the Magpies, but he has played in a number of pre-season friendlies.
